4/27/07 -- BUCKS TO HOLD OPEN TRYOUTS
Rochester, MI (April 27, 2007) - The Michigan Bucks have the majority of their 2006 North American PDL championship team starting line-up returning for the start of the 2007 campaign, which begins on May 16. But, according to Bucks head coach, Dan Fitzgerald, there are still a few holes to fill. “Although we are excited that most of our star players are returning this spring, there will be an opportunity for 5-10 new comers to make our roster. We do have several new faces reporting to camp on May 1 from all over the country, but we want to see if there is any new local talent that we have missed that can make one of those spots.” The Bucks will be holding their only public open trial on Saturday, May 5 at 9:00 AM at Oakland University. There is a $25 registration fee and forms can be printed from the Bucks web site. All players should bring their own soccer gear and be prepared to complete the training session at 11:00 AM.
The Bucks have always depended on home grown Michigan talent as the core of each year’s team, and this year will be no different. Although player signings will not publicly be announced until next week, the Bucks have commitments from college players from Oakland University, University of Michigan, Michigan State and will also include several younger star players from area high schools. In addition to the local talent, the Bucks will have their usual international flair as well, with players coming from five foreign countries as well. As the minor league affiliate of Major League Soccer’s Columbus Crew, this year’s schedule will include the Crew visiting Detroit to play the Bucks on Wednesday, May 30, as well as the Bucks completing their regular season home schedule by playing the Ft. Wayne Fever in Crew Stadium before the Crew/Toronto FC MLS match on July 22. The final schedule is being revised and will be released early next week with all the details of game venues and kick off times.
