(July 14, 2007)- The Michigan Bucks began their stretch run to defend their North American Championship by destroying the cross state rival West Michigan Edge 7-1 at Lake Orion High School. The Bucks worked hard from the opening whistle, but gave up the first goal early in the first half. With the Edge leading at the three minute mark, the Great Lakes Division leading Bucks decided to turn up the volume and do what they do better than any team in the PDL- score goals. Bucks leading scorer Kenny Uzoigwe finished his three goal hat trick and added two assists, while running mate Nate Jafta recorded two goals and an assist of his own. The dynamic duo for the Bucks continued to set up the Edge and never allowed the younger team to gather any momentum.
The Champion Bucks took a 3-1 lead into halftime and quickly scored four more goals in the second half to put the game away and eliminate the Edge from playoff contention for yet another year. The Bucks clinched their PDL record eleventh playoff spot in the team’s twelve year existence and look to clinch their seventh Great Lakes Division title with a win in Ft. Wayne on Tuesday night. The Bucks will wrap up their home schedule with a game on Friday night at Rochester High School (7:00) before leaving to play their final regular season match at Columbus Crew Stadium on Sunday, July 22 as part of a PDL/ MLS doubleheader.
