BUCKS DETHRONE KINGS 1-0; MOVE TO 5-0 Uzoigwe strikes in the 90th minute
Kenny Uzoigwe scored his 5th goal in as many games Friday
Cincinnati, OH -- The Michigan Bucks continued their 2008 undefeated run by coming out 1-0 winners Friday night against the Cincinnati Kings. In a tightly contested affair, Bucks striker Kenny Uzoigwe (Toledo) found the back of the net in the 90th minute to give his side a much-valued three points and a maximum 15 points for the season.
The Bucks stingy defense was the backbone of the team for most of the game with the Bucks offensive players finding it difficult to breakthrough the Kings back line. The Bucks potent offense pounded the Cincinnati defense by possessing the ball over 70% of the half. The valent Kings defense denied PDL player of the week Nate Jafta (South Africa; Lindsey Wilson) and running mate Uzoigwe free run of the park.
The Bucks continued their dominance in the second half, but could not manage to get a ball past Kings keeper Aaron Arndt. With Jafta tiring, Bucks coach Dan Fitzgerald called on Doug DeMartin (Mason; Michigan State) in the 84th minute for on offensive spark. DeMartin did not disappoint and did well to run at defenders and open up space in the Bucks midfield. As the scoreless game went into extra time, DeMartin sidestepped his defender and laid the ball off to Bes Bega (Harper Woods) at the top of the eighteen yard box. Bes quickly surveyed his options and found Uzoigwe in alone on Arndt. Kenny put the game away with a confident right footed strike to kill time at the end of the match.
