SOUTH BEND, IN (May 25, 2009) - The Michigan Bucks survived a physical battle on Memorial Day to finish wi
th a 1-0 win over the Indiana Invaders in South Bend to give them two shutout victories on the weekend. Following Saturday’s 3-0 win over Cincinnati at the Canton Cup, the Bucks capitalized on a first half penalty kick from captain Kevin Taylor (right) as the difference in a game that featured more than a half dozen yellow cards and two red cards to the home side.
The Bucks escaped with only a yellow card to Taylor, but did see head coach Dan Fitzgerald sent off in the first half following a brief verbal disagreement with the referee. The result brings the Bucks record to 2-1-1 (7 pts.) on the season but leaves them out of the 2009 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup after Chicago beat Ft. Wayne 1-0 on Saturday to claim the Great Lakes Division berth to the nation’s oldest soccer tournament.
Although disappointed about being ordered from the field and the lack of qualifying for the Open Cup, Fitzgerald was able to find some positive comments from the weekend’s events.
The Bucks will host the Toronto Lynx at Ultimate Soccer Arenas Sunday, May 31 (7:30 kickoff) and will be looking for revenge. The Lynx were the only team that beat the Bucks during the 2008 regular season. Tickets for the match are $10 Adults and $7 Youth (15 and under). Children 5 and under are always FREE to Bucks home games.
