PONTIAC, MI -- The Kansas City Wizards of Major League Soccer (MLS) drafted Mauro Fuzetti (Houston, TX/University of Michigan) in the third round of last Thursday’s MLS SuperDraft (41st overall pick) as part of the NSCAA
Convention in Philadelphia.
A three-year Bucks player, Fuzetti led the Bucks and the Michigan Wolverines offense during 2009. As the only Bucks player selected in this year’s draft, Fuzetti has kept alive the Bucks 12-year streak of having players drafted into Major League Soccer, dating back to 1999, when Jeremy Aldrich (Mattawan, MI/ Butler) was the club’s first player selected by the Miami Fusion.
According to several United Soccer Leagues (USL) historians, this streak is yet another record held by the Bucks.
“We have had a nice streak of top players come through the organization and are proud to have had at least one player selected every year since the inception of the MLS SuperDraft event,” said Bucks Chairman and CEO Dan Duggan. “This past season was a down year for us with MLS talent, but we have already begun reloading for the upcoming season that begins in May.”
The Bucks will begin their fifteenth Premier Development League (PDL) campaign, playing their third season in their home at Ultimate Soccer Arenas in Pontiac.
“Mauro is an incredibly talented player, who we knew would be drafted. Hopefully he will fit in well in the Wizards offense and gets an opportunity to show his skill at the next level this spring,” concluded Duggan.
Kansas City has had a long pipe line to the Michigan Bucks organization, with Fuzetti being the seventh player selected; one in each of the past seven seasons.
As part of the country’s largest soccer convention, Bucks management spent several days in meetings with players, coaches and league management to formulate some very important developments that will have a positive impact on both the Bucks and high level soccer in Michigan this summer and beyond. Further details, players and the 2010 Bucks schedule are due to be released in early February.
